The laid-back Azanzi Beach Hotel boasts one of the island’s most breathtaking settings.
The design of this boutique hotel takes inspiration from the traditional dhow boat, with a central double-storey building featuring natural timber and peaked thatch roofs. The huge, largely shaded swimming pool begins under the thatch of the main building and extends all the way out towards the white sand beach. During the day, take a seat at the pool bar to order drinks without even leaving the water. On the upper level of the main building is The Bridge Restaurant, which serves a variety of fresh Swahili and international dishes, either buffet-style or from a set menu. On the opposite side of the upper level you’ll find the Mnemba View Lounge – the ideal spot for pre and post-dinner drinks.
One of the hotel’s biggest highlights is its location, fronting a glorious offshore lagoon that leads out to the picture-perfect Mnemba Atoll where the waters teem with tropical fish, green turtles, dolphins and whale sharks. Diving is big news here, and there’s a friendly expert team at the hotel’s dive centre ready to accompany divers of all abilities – and snorkellers – on boat trips to explore the atoll.
Azanzi’s spacious rooms have beamed ceilings and are decorated in warm earthy colours with traditional details. All have a private balcony or terrace. Standard Rooms are upstairs rooms and have a bathroom with shower. Superior Rooms are more spacious with a bathroom with bath, and can be interconnecting. Deluxe Rooms have an outdoor shower, while Deluxe Suites have an outdoor shower and Jacuzzi.
